Hydraulic systems allow to apply high machining parameters, since they are suitable for high cutting forces. Therefore, they are the most advanced and preferred solution. The assembly comprising of hydraulic actuators, sequence and reduction valves, pressure intensifiers, etc. powered from a system of oil channels hidden in the body results in a compact system allowing for the positioning of even the most complicated workpieces machined. The system can be controlled manually and automatically.
Pneumatically-controlled clamping systems are applied in absence of high machining forces and hydraulic source. Their design and control methods are similar to those of hydraulic systems. Another important benefit is cost reduction in case when the only medium available to the machine is compressed air: the pneumatic system does not require installing a hydraulic power pack.
The simplicity and robustness of fixing stiff workpieces of regular and symmetrical shape are among the main advantages of mechanical clamping systems. Their low production volume, and the ease of clamping such workpieces sometimes leads to the conclusion that mechanical fixtures will be the best and the most cost-efficient clamping method.
